My Journey to Online Expression: A Birthday Reflection

Reflections on starting my online journey

3 min read • Reflections • 17 Jan 2026

I really wanted to start with a powerful punch line. But you know, this is enough.

From the stables of my journal to this invisible internet connection, I am finally pouring out my heart, my thoughts, and my feelings. I’ve just had the best birthday, and I feel full. Full of gratitude, of emotion and of beginnings. I prayed, God made things happen, and I made things happen too. Alhamdulilah.

I have so much to write, and I know what a journey this will be. I started writing in my journal in 2025, and now in 2026 I’m here in my own space on the web, open to meeting people, exchanging thoughts, and sharing ideas. I feel emotional as I type this, but I will keep writing.

I don’t even know how to write formally anymore, or how to speak to an “audience.” Not that I even have one yet but still, what a moment. What a time.

I’m in celebration mood because it’s my birthday week, so let this serve as a gentle introduction to me, myself, and I. This space will be full of feel-good thoughts, questionable thoughts, learning and unlearning. I only discovered the word unlearning after COVID. Imagine realising there are things we were taught that we must now untie from ourselves. What a world!!!

I’m typing on a laptop, which feels strange because I’m a pen-and-paper girl. Maybe “stone age girl” is more accurate. I’m not sure pens existed in the stone age, pardon me. But there’s truly nothing like pen and paper. Typing feels like it limits my thoughts, yet here I am, trying anyway.

Just enjoy the ride with me. I don’t know what ride or where we’re going. By the time you read this, I would have found a suitable name for this website. I want it to be both serious and unserious. Simply a place to share thoughts, to learn and to unlearn.

Some days will be busy with work, and I may not write as often as I hope, but I will always be here in some form. I still feel like a teenager inside; only my responsibilities remind me of my age.

I write exactly as I think, straight from my head. Maybe it’s not a style I’ve seen before, but it’s mine. Shoutout to Wole Soyinka, his grammar defeated me in Chronicles of the Happiest People. I was checking the dictionary every minute; that book is for professors, not for a youth like me.

And to my grandpa, Pa Moses Agbeleṣe, who always encouraged me to write this is for you. I know you might not approve of my silly style, but I promise to make it good and better.

I’ve probably written over 800 words for an introduction. I have a lot to say. But that’s the point, isn’t it? This is the beginning.

ps- I realised I didn’t take a picture of my birthday cake.

Welcome to my corner of the internet.
